New Transfer Mandatory Advising On-Line Session

Structure of University/Declaring a Major

Although you have been admitted to the University itself, it will be necessary for you to be admitted to the college, major, or program of your choice. Procedures for this vary by department so it is important for you to read the catalog entries pertaining to your intended major to determine what needs to be done to officially record your major with the department. Some majors have a very simple procedure of visiting the department office and filling out a brief form. Other majors require specific pre-requisite courses, grade point minimum, interview, entry exam, and application deadline.

All students are required to record an INTENT to major with their major department (not formal acceptance) by the time a student has reached junior standing, which is 58 credits at ISU. If you have earned 58 or more credits (including current enrollment) and have not declared intent to major, you will be blocked from registering for the second term at ISU.

It is strongly suggested that all transfer students in their first term at ISU make an appointment in the office of their intended major and be assigned a faculty advisor. In some cases, that may have been accomplished prior to enrolling at ISU. Although AAC is always open for ANY sort of assistance, it is in the students' best interest to also be advised by their major departments as soon as a major has been chosen.
