Mark was born in California, and after spending a year and a half in South America his family moved to Idaho. He is a Vietnam Era veteran and is fluent in Spanish. Mark holds a Master’s degree in Education and taught high school mathematics and science for 25 years before retiring. He was the recipient of three significant awards for excellence in teaching, including Micron Outstanding Physics Teacher, Idaho Science Teachers Association Excellence in Teaching, and School District 25 Teacher of the Year. He now works for Central Academic Advising as the diversity and veterans advisor.
Mark and his partner Pam have three grown children and four young grandchildren who love spending time at their ranch-style home in the City Creek area of Pocatello. The kids have a fort, a tree house, and an entire basement-full of toys that both Mark and Pam have spoiled them with. Mark works with Veterans Sanctuary, Vocational Rehabilitation Services, and the Veterans Certifying Official to advise military students on GI Bill approved coursework, GoArmyEd tuition assistance degree plans, and ROTC class planning.
Mark also works with Native American Student Services and is currently the club advisor for Native Americans United. He is the tutor manager for a National Science Foundation project that focuses specifically on helping Native American students.
