Test Accomodations
Letter to ISU Faculty Regarding Test Accommodations
Dear ISU Faculty Members,
The ADA & Disabilities Resource Center requires each student to present a Test Accommodations Form signed by you before we will provide an accommodated test to him/her. The general procedures for arranging an accommodated exam with the ADA Center have remained essentially the same for a number of years, we continually make minor adjustments, and we want to make sure you remain current with these "fine tunings," so you can provide appropriate accommodations without compromising your academic standards.
We hope the accommodations form is sufficiently self explanatory. We absolutely need clear and accurate information from you in order to provide the accommodations in the manner you have determined is in keeping with both your academic standards and the student's civil rights to a level playing field. We offer these points of reminder to ensure the best results for you and your students who take exams with us:
- For exam arrangements through us, students MUST bring us a form, signed by you
- The form is YOUR control over your exam. Accommodations which the student requests should be in accordance with those recommended by the ADA Center. You may request the student supply a Letter of Verification from the ADA Center to support the request
- You should indicate if the exam is open note, open book, or requires some other specific tools to complete. We follow your instructions to the letter so it is important to make sure you specify your requirements for that exam
- You should also indicate how you want the completed exam returned to you. Unless otherwise requested, all tests will be returned via Campus Courier Service. If you choose, you or an assistant may pick up the completed exam from the ADA Center or you may request that it be returned by the student in a sealed envelope
- There will be ONE form completed for EACH exam arranged through us. Students may NOT arrange more than one exam per form, or an entire semester's exams at one time
- Students MUST give us at least 2 working days' notice of an accommodated exam. They should give YOU ample notice as well.
- EXPECT that students will initiate contact with you, and ALL requests for reasonable accommodations.
Students may ask anything they like, but that doesn't always mean it is a REASONABLE ACCOMMODATION. If you ever feel there is some question as to the validity of any accommodation requested by a student with a disability, please contact the ADA Center Director, Dennis Toney at 282-3272 or by e-mail at tonedenn@isu.edu.
Our job at the ADA & Disabilities Resource Center, with respect to testing, is to provide reasonable accommodations to students with disabilities, and to otherwise ensure the exam is conducted within the parameters prescribed by you.
Thank you for accommodating us!
Sincerely,
Dennis Toney, Director
ADA & Disabilities Resource Center
