Courses

EMGT 101 Incident Command System 3 credits. Basic through advanced emergency management practices used during an emergency situation. Includes the structure of the Incident Command System, the management of facilities, and typing of resources; the National Incident Management System principles; and the roles of supervisors, commanders and general staff in an Incident Command System environment. D

EMGT 102 Hazardous Materials Awareness and Operations 3 credits. Basic contingency planning and response to incidents and accidents involving hazardous materials.  Develop sample plans emphasizing assessment, equipment requirements, collateral support agreements and actual response. D 

EMGT 121 Principles of Emergency Management 3 credits. Theories, principles, and approaches to emergency management. Gain knowledge and skills for managing emergencies in order to lessen their impacts on society. Discuss the philosophy of comprehensive emergency management, including mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery. D

EMGT 122 Emergency Resources Management 3 credits. Manage resources in an Emergency Operations Center. D

EMGT 221 Emergency Management Operations 3 credits. Incident Management System based on standardization of terminology, players, and management philosophy. Emergency Operations Center setup, activation, operation, and termination, including staffing, training, and briefings. D

EMGT 222 Emergency Planning and Warning Coordination 3 credits.  Develop a comprehensive, risk-based, and all-hazard Emergency Operations Plan. D

EMGT 223 Mitigation for Emergency Managers 3 credits.  Hazard mitigation at the local through federal levels of governance, emphasizing the importance of avoiding or preventing future and recurring losses. D

EMGT 224 Disaster Response and Recovery 3 credits. Explore the principles that promote effective disaster response operations and management. Examine the nature of disasters, the context of response operations in the United States, and the roles and responsibilities of emergency management related actors, with emphasis on the Incident Command System and interaction with the Emergency Operations Center. D

EMGT 225 Exercise Design and Program Management 3 credits. Design, develop, conduct, and evaluate disaster exercises to test a community’s Emergency Operations Plan and operational response capability.  D
