Respiratory Therapy

6 Semester Program for full-time students. Part-time program also available.One Associate of Science Degree and one Bachelor of Science in Health Science Degree are available.
The program is seeking accreditation by the Committee on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC).

Upon successful completion of the Respiratory Therapy Program, graduates are eligible to take the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) entry-level examination to become certified respiratory therapists (CRT). They would then be eligible, and are encouraged, to complete the NBRC advanced-level examination to become registered respiratory therapists (RRT).

RESP 100 Introduction to Respiratory Care 3 credits. Introduction to the care of pulmonary patients. Focus on skills required and methods used to manage cardiopulmonary problems. PREREQ: HO 105 or HCA 110; HO 106 or HCA 210. F, SRESP 110 Pharmacotherapy for Respiratory Therapists 2 credits. Study of therapeutic drug administration for respiratory therapists. Special emphasis will be directed to safety issues, sources of drug information, and application to respiratory care practice. PREREQ: HO 209 and RESP 100. F, S
RESP 115 Introduction to Pulmonary Disease 4 credits. Integrated approach to the anatomy, physiology, and pathology of the cardiopulmonary system. Normal and abnormal function will be compared. Emphasis will be placed on cardiopulmonary functions that are frequently measured to monitor patient status. PREREQ: RESP 100, BIOS 301, BIOS 301L, BIOS 302 and BIOS 302L. F, S
