The Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities completed their comprehensive evaluation of Idaho State University in fall 2004. In January the NWCCU announced that it had reaffirmed ISU’s accreditation, commending the University in its efforts to maintain this continuing recognition.

In reaffirming the accreditation of ISU, the NWCCU also identified several areas in need of improvement, including the development of a five-year enrollment and financial plan; assurance of an effective institutional research function for assessment and planning; evaluation of the University’s computing system; clarification of oversight responsibilities within the management system; updating faculty workload policies; and development of a clearer definition of continuing education.

The commission has requested the University submit a progress report in fall 2005 to address recommendations 1, 6, 8, and 10, listed elsewhere on this website in the fall 2004 Comprehensive Report. The commission also asked the University to prepare a focused interim report and host an evaluation visit in spring 2006 focused on recommendations 2, 3, 7, and 9. as listed in the Comprehensive Report.

To address the recommendations from the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities, Dr. Bowen has assembled an Accreditation Working Group, chaired by Dr. John Kijinski, Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, and co-chaired by Dr. Barbara Adamcik, Assistant Academic Vice President and Director of Institutional Research. Charged with responding to and implementing action on these recommendations, this group will prepare the requested reports for the interim evaluation visit and report its progress directly to Dr. Bowen.
