ISU Accreditation Working Group

Goals and Objectives

The approach initiated by the ISU Accreditation Working Group focuses on seeking integration in how ISU addresses each of the ten NWCCU recommendations. Rather than take a piecemeal approach to dealing with each recommendation according to the timeline established by NWCCU, the working group determined early on that the most advantageous way for ISU to make progress on these issues involved actively articulating the connections between all of the recommendations from the start. This approach will enable ISU to address the accreditation issues as a whole, breaking out responses to specific recommendations as required by the NWCCU timeline. To establish both an awareness of specific issues in each recommendation and the desired institutional synergy across the range of recommendations, the nine-member working group has formed a subgroup for each recommendation.

Each recommendation subgroup consists of group members whose responsibilities connect with those issues in the recommendation and is chaired by a member of the working group with specific working knowledge of that recommendation. Other University personnel with expertise and/or responsibilities that need to be brought to bear on each recommendation will be asked to join the various subgroups so as to involve the widest range of University faculty and staff in the early deliberations and resultant communications and working loops.

The subgroups have been tasked by the working group co-chairs to develop a consensus concerning the specific nature of the issues in each recommendation and to develop an action plan based on the following:

  1. What has been done already to address the issues within the recommendation
  2. What processes need to be put into place in the near-term to address the issues within the recommendation.
  3. What mid- and long-term goals need to be accomplished to achieve complete and consistent compliance with the NWCCU standards, as outlined in the recommendations.

These action plans will drive the efforts of the working group and the larger University, as we prepare for the progress report fall 2005, the evaluation visit spring 2006, the focused interim report, and broader efforts to improve student learning and institutional effectiveness.
