Heather Schaper received her BS from U of Wisconsin-Madison in Anthropology, Minor in African Studies/Rural Sociology and her MS from ISU in Medical Anthropology.
She is currently in her second year at ISU studying for her Masters of Physician Assistant Studies, with clinical rotations in multiple primary care and specialty practices around SE Idaho; to graduate in 8/09.
She is looking forward to employment with Health West, Inc, in Aberdeen and American Falls clinics.
Healther worked with HHP since 2001, variously as research assistant, researcher, health promoter, and liason with Health West. Still doing saturday women's and children's clinics with Health West, and helping to teach prenatal classes for Hispanic women and pregnant teens in Aberdeen and AF.
She is hoping to expand primary mental health care access to Spanish speakers living in rural SE Idaho by pursuing additional education in counseling, providing medical management of depression and anxiety, organizing support/education opportunities for women and men in the Hispanic community, and educating other health care providers about the mental health care needs of Hispanic families in binational context.
